Student Testimonials
“As a Cushman student for 12 years and daughter of Cushman Alum I had the privilege to watch Cushman grow in facilities, student body and the overall enforcement of the “Cushman Philosophy”. Without Cushman’s desire for student excellence I wouldn’t have been able to be accepted and committed to my dream school Boston College. Not only did Cushman’s support allow for my academic success but Cushman’s love shaped my character forever as I am devoted to making a positive change in any community I am placed in. I am very grateful to have a second family like Cushman because they helped me every step of the way, led me to find my passions and accommodated my individual needs as they understand that every person is a different person and that is what makes us equal.”
Lucy Ingraham, Class of 2024
“You won’t find better teachers than the ones at Cushman. The faculty is what truly separates the Cushman experience from any other. Teachers will be there for you for anything you need, from helping you prepare to tests, to helping you through a hard time. They are enthusiastic to lend a helping hand or to tell you a funny joke. I couldn’t have asked for better teachers. The college counseling experience is hands-on and because of the help I received I was able to finish my applications in a short time and get into every college I applied to.”
Linden Schweiger, Class of 2024
“As I finish my high school career, I could not be more grateful to Cushman and all it has done for me. The care and support I found in this community, after moving from Brazil as a junior, was beyond the expected. I will be forever thankful for the staff, teachers, and my wonderful college counselors. I am sure that without their utmost care and availability senior year would’ve been an even greater challenge than it was. Thank you!“
Beatriz Menezes, Class of 2024
“Maria Caamano and Heide Marando are exceptional at helming Cushman High School’s College Counseling Department. I was very impressed by their proactive, organized and individually tailored student processes and extremely pleased with my son, Linden’s outcomes. Under their thoughtful guidance and support, Linden applied early to five colleges and received five acceptances… I could not be happier or more thankful for the work they did to get Linden into college. They are priceless.”
Cindy Lieber, Mother of Graduate
“My SAM project focused on food insecurity throughout South Florida, both addressing causes, short term aid, and long term and nationwide solutions. SAM taught me more than just about the project itself. I learned how to network with local communities and volunteers, how to organize large groups of people, and most importantly improve my communication skills to students, professionals, and organizations. The curriculum also enhanced my college application to The University of Pennsylvania, where I spoke largely about my passion for helping my community.”
Mónica Lama, Class of 2023
“My SAM project was Shrink the Gap, aimed at shrinking the gender pay gap through salary negotiation and interview workshops for middle school and high school girls. I was accepted into an internship with the Florida American Civil Liberties Union and the Politics and Values Program at George Washington University because of my work on women’s and gender issues throughout high school. My SAM project game me a unique perspective that is valued by employers and gives me a foundation for my future work in social justice and lawmaking.”
